Competitive Intelligence Gathering

A major Japanese trading company wanted to purchase a Brazilian company that was a known target of the trading company's major U.S. competitor. The company called upon CCI to identify the key players at the U.S.-based competitor and to learn whether the competitor would consider a joint venture purchase of the target company.

Through extensive research and interviews with industry experts, CCI determined that the U.S. competitor had made numerous joint venture acquisitions during its expansion into Europe and Eastern Europe. CCI also identified two key contacts at the U.S. competitor, one of whom had been recalled from Central Europe where he led their expansion there. He was recalled to lead their future expansion into Latin America and Asia. CCI's findings resulted in the client being able to structure an informed, multifaceted, first approach to its competitor.
